John Gillo Artist Dartmouth Devon

I was born in 1948. My initial years were spent in Putney, London and lBayards Cove, Dartmouth, Devonater Maidenhead in Berkshire. I attended Windsor Grammar school after which I accepted a place at Brighton School of Art, graduating in 1971. I taught in a number of schools and colleges but realised I wanted to paint full time and established the John Gillo Gallery in 1976.

From this base I developed a reputation for watercolours, mainly drawing my inspiration from Dartmouth and the surrounding area. My work today is largely in acrylics and has broadened considerably to include much more abstract work.

I closed the gallery in 2016, but have continued painting, publishing prints and cards.  There are three galleries in the area that stock my work. Links to these galleries can be found in the contact John section of the website.

Some of my paintings have been made into jigsaw puzzles produced by Gibson Games. These are widely available throughout the county.
